Assalamu alaykom

I came across this website via a siggy from a brother at another site. As this is a nice sedate forum I have logged on with my real nick. I travelled under another name at other sites but now that I am the proud father of a brand-new website I have decided to clean up my act and break with the past and try and avoid the pitfalls of politics.

And what better a site to come to than one that offers web-help. And I am in need of a big dose.

My 'baby' is up and working, with just a few more tweaks before its complete......technically, for now. As for uploading pdfs mp3s etc. That's on-going. I am not a designer, programmer etc. Just an end-user who has decided to open a website for dawah etc.

But I want to learn.

So the issue in this post is about site optimization. How do I generate traffic?

Salam 'Alaikom Skhi, I think we better follow our previous discussion here so that you'll be able to review it any time and ask any question you want and I'll be able to follow up and add my answers + suggestions and everybody else can benefit insha'a ALLAH.

1- We need to know what CMS (Content Management System) do you use: Joomla, Drupal, Infinity, Wordpress...etc
You can check that by logging to your Admin Panel area and see what it says above or down at the footer or just read the readme file supplied with your script or the manual.

2- Then we'll find you the suitable SEO Component/Module that will change your web site's URLs to a Search Engine friendly links, may be we'll need the .htaccess rewrite_mod ON.

3- Then we'll find you again a Sitemap Creator that works with your CMS and this latter will help us building a compatible map for Google and the likes, and we can submit it later to these search engines.

4- Create a Google Analytics account and add the JavaScript code they'll give after you add your site there, the code should be placed under your pages' footers or template or whatever, the main thing is that we need that code in every displayed page for the visitors and this could be easy in most the available/current CMSs coz adding it to the index page is sufficient, this will help you track any referrer to your sites, the most searched keywords for your site and the number/location of visitors, the visited pages and so on. 5- Create a Webmasters' Tools account to submit your SiteMap that you should have created earlier, and Google will list your site and index its links so that you'll be included at the first pages of the searched queries. http://www.google.com/webmasters/

This should be enough for now till you know what CMS you're running, so we can go 1 step forward after that.

You have to make you template's standards compatible with the W3 standards too.

Which means that your site will be displayed the same way with all the other web navigators.
