The short waited Google Chrome OS has been launched lately and can be downloaded at:

And hopefully there are 2 files there, the 1st one is a Tar that has an Image to be run on a Virtual-Box/Machine without installing it and the 2nd one is the ISO file to be burnt and installed on the PC/Netbook.

The bad news is that there is no Live-CD version for now, and the main use of this new OS is reserved on the people who live in the Net as Google described them, so the most powerful tools would require an internet connection, and it's mainly dedicated to Netbooks and that's way it can be run on only 256MB of Ram and 1GB of space with a Full Gnome Version and some world renowed applications such as Gimp that is the PhotoShop equivilant in the Linux World, OpenOffice suite that's the Alternative of MS Office, and empowered by Google Chrome web browser beta and others.

We have to mention that Google claimed also that they have focused on Speed and Security and it appears they reached in this roadmap for now.

This version is said to be based on Moblin which is a Linux version developped by Intel for their Atom CPU but it goes global after that, but in fact I believe they had merged other distros altogether to make the best from the other worlds, and I suspect that they'd used some packages from the GooBuntu Linux.

GooBuntu Linux is an Ubuntu based OS, used by the 20.000 Google employees as reported by Wikipedia and it was made to be used in-house only and both of the UBuntu founder and Google claimed that this version won't be published previously, and that's why I think Google want to share with us something from theirs without contradicting their claims.
